Shalom, beautiful souls!
Dec. 24 was my daughter's birthday—she was a Hanukkah baby—and Dec. 25, at night we will light the first Hanukkah candle. As we approach this celebration of light, freedom, and miracles, I want to share a deeper meaning behind this time of year that transcends tradition and speaks to universal truths about freedom and knowledge.
Hanukkah commemorates the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem, a victory of light over darkness, and freedom from oppression. It’s a time to celebrate the miracles that occurred over 2,000 years ago, but it's also an opportunity for personal reflection. The Hebrew word for Hanukkah, חנוכה (Chinuch), means both "dedication" and "education." This dual meaning carries profound insight not just for those who celebrate Hanukkah, but for all of us seeking freedom in our lives.
Dedication and Education: The Heart of Hanukkah
The word Chinuch (dedication) reminds us that Hanukkah is not just about lighting candles and remembering the past, but also about the dedication to learning and growing. The Maccabees fought for their freedom to live according to their faith, and they restored the purity of the Temple. Similarly, we must dedicate ourselves to freedom—not just from external forces, but from the limitations that restrict our health, our minds, and our lives.
Chinuch also means education, and education leads to empowerment. Whether we are celebrating Hanukkah or not, the holiday invites us to reflect on how education, in all forms, frees us. In a world where information is power, we are blessed to have the opportunity to choose education that empowers us—especially when it comes to our health and well-being.
Health Freedom Through Knowledge
As we consider the message of Hanukkah, we can connect it to the concept of freedom. Just as the Maccabees fought for their right to live freely, we too are facing challenges today. But instead of political oppression, we are fighting for something just as important—our health freedom. We live in a time when we are being deceived and lied to about our health, by the government, corporations, and the modern medical system - some knowingly and some unknowingly lying to us. However, we can choose how we approach our health, and we can educate ourselves to reclaim our well-being through natural and holistic practices.
This is where education becomes the key to true freedom.
