Adrenal Fatigue

Do you feel constantly tired or stressed? Are you experiencing constant fatigue for no obvious reason? Maybe you feel like you have a weakened immune system and you're constantly getting sick? Maybe you are always cravings for sweet or salty food, have insomnia or difficulty staying asleep, you get bursts of energy late in the evening or a feeling of being overwhelmed or lethargic and you just have a general lack of energy?

What is Adrenal Fatigue?

If you are feeling constantly tired and stressed out or unable to deal with stress, you may be suffering from Adrenal Fatigue. The modern medical establishment does not acknowledge Adrenal Fatigue anymore. It used to acknowledge Adrenal Fatigue under a different name which is Hypoadrenia. Now, modern medicine only formally recognizes Addison's disease or Adrenal Insufficiency so we have a spectrum. We have, on one end, perfectly functioning adrenal glands and then, on the other extreme, we have Addison's disease and Adrenal Insufficiency. But this is when your adrenal glands are already in a very poor state. You really don't want to wait until you get to that stage before doing something.

Adrenal fatigue, you could say, is the phase in between those two extremes when your adrenal glands stop working optimally – they're still functioning somewhat that it's not yet as bad as Addison's Disease – but it's still giving you problems, like chronic fatigue and inability to deal with stress. There are a lot of different theories about why the modern medical establishment does not acknowledge Adrenal Fatigue or Hypoadrenia anymore, but I think one of the major reasons is because it's not profitable to acknowledge it. It is much more profitable to wait until someone has Addison's disease because, at that point, it's a much bigger crisis. When people are in (a state of) crisis, people are in fear and, therefore, more willing to take drastic measures. When you recognize Adrenal Fatigue in its earlier stages before it becomes Addison's disease, then you're able to deal with it naturally through diet, rest, distressing, herbs and vitamins and minerals and whatnot. All of which is, of course, not profitable to the pharmaceutical industry and may be why modern medicine, I believe, does not recognize it. Only holistic healers or holistic-minded doctors, herbalists, chiropractors, naturopaths, homeopaths, etc. acknowledge Adrenal Fatigue. This may, very possibly, be a reason why you and so many others are not getting the answers that you need from conventional methods and conventional doctors. We're going to learn more about this and how we can deal with it holistically, what the root causes are, etc.

Adrenal Fatigue Related to Chronic Health Issues

Now, one of my teachers, a holistic medical doctor who is actually married to an herbalist – they're an awesome couple – talks about how he has dealt with many people with Adrenal Fatigue. He says that Adrenal Fatigue is actually an underlying cause or a correlated issue with other chronic illnesses and that dealing with Adrenal Fatigue can also encourage the healing of these other chronic illnesses that people may face. Also, not dealing with Adrenal Fatigue can hinder people from healing from these chronic illnesses. That's how important dealing with Adrenal Fatigue can be. This is not something that really should be ignored by any true healer.

Adrenal Fatigue causes people to be unable to cope with physical, emotional and mental stresses the way a healthy person with a healthy mind and body is able to. Because of this, this sets the stage for chronic fatigue, chronic infections, cognitive problems and imbalanced immune system, joint and muscle deterioration and an inability to control inflammation and most holistic healers say that inflammation is related to or is a root cause of many diseases. I don't want to say all, but many and it's at least related to many of them. This is why Adrenal Fatigue goes hand in hand with many chronic illnesses. It's very often something that propels someone to chronic illness.

Adrenal Glands

So, what are your adrenal glands anyways and what do they do? They're basically triangular shaped glands which are on top of your kidneys and they have two sections. There's the adrenal cortex which is the outer part of the gland and it creates life sustaining hormones such as Cortisol, Pregnenolone and Dehydroepiandrosterone. It's hard for me to pronounce but the way that most people know that is by the name of DHEA. Many people take DHEA supplements. I do and a few of my children do as well. These three hormones – Cortisol, Pregnenolone and DHEA support your body's ability to respond to stress and Aldosterone helps regulate blood pressure. Now, referring back to Addison's disease again. Addison's disease is basically when your adrenal glands cannot produce enough of the stress hormone Cortisol and also sometimes the hormone Aldosterone. When this happens, this can lead to a breakdown of your body and cause an acute health crisis. So, you don't want it to get to that stage. You want to deal with Adrenal Fatigue when it is early on and it's not an acute health crisis yet. It's only fatigue and stress. The adrenal glands’ inner portion, the medulla, produces Adrenaline and Noradrenaline. And this also helps the body to respond to stress.

Adrenal Fatigue Symptoms

Research has shown that if you have Chronic Sinusitis, it could be related to an immune response that you're having to a fungal infection. This was first discovered by the Mayo Clinic in 1999 but this kind of research has been duplicated in other studies. A lot of holistic healers will treat Sinusitis by treating systemic fungal infection. Sinusitis is very common but it can lead to serious diseases such as Pneumonia and Meningitis. There are a lot of things that you can do naturally from home to help you with this problem but it should really be done in a very holistic manner. Just like with most things, you shouldn't be looking for a magic bullet or a magic herb or anything like that. It has to be a holistic approach.

Causes of Adrenal Fatigue

Now, let's talk about the root causes of Adrenal Fatigue. Probably the most important one, I would say, is prolonged mental, emotional or physical stress. Human beings need to be in a physical/relational environment that is not necessarily “stress-free”, but you should, certainly, not be in a situation that causes you prolonged, constant and recurring stress. Stress is a huge factor, not only for Adrenal Fatigue, but even for other types of illnesses and diseases. It is very important that you figure out what it is in your life that is causing you stress – it probably won't be hard to figure out – and realize that this is hurting you and that you have to deal with it. You can't just keep going on. You have to deal with it somehow. Sometimes, you can't completely get rid of it. Let's say it's your children. You can't just get rid of your children and they cause you a lot of stress. But what can you do so that you are better able to deal with this stressful situation? You can take some time out and rest more. Maybe don't worry so much or maybe there is something that you can do to get help with the situation. If it's your work situation, maybe it's time to get a new job. It may take a while to get a new job, but you have to try something for yourself, for your health and your well-being because when your body starts giving you these signs like Adrenal Fatigue, you have to change your situation. Maybe it's a toxic relationship. I don't know what kind. There can be many different kinds. It could be a toxic marriage, a toxic boyfriend and girlfriend relationship. It could be a toxic work relationship, toxic friendship or toxic family relations. Sometimes, you have to cut people off or take breaks. Taking a break, getting some space is a very healing thing to do. Whatever it is, you have to recognize and do something about it. There may be many things that you will have to do but you should definitely address it.

Another one of the root causes is nutrient deficiencies. Your body can handle quite a bit of stress but if you're not supporting it physically the way it needs, then the amount of stress that it can handle is going to be a lot less. For me, many years ago, I was trying to go vegan. I was on that bandwagon and it was very bad for me. It caused me to have serious health issues because I couldn't deal with the stresses in life. One of the major reasons – probably the secondary reason – was because of my diet. There are a lot of vitamins and minerals – B-12 and other things – that are found to be much more accessible in animal products than in vegetables alone. Now, I understand that a raw vegan diet has often helped people heal themselves from various diseases, but so has a meat diet. I know a lot of people who have been lifelong vegans that developed various health issues because of their veganism. There are many people that have healed by introducing meat and animal products into their diet. I'm not sure where you are at with your diet, but it's one thing to consider. Of course, there's a lot of other things that you have to deal with when it comes to nutrient deficiency. A big factor is just the consumption of way too much sugar, processed foods, empty calories and toxic chemicals, toxic ingredients from the processed foods. So we can talk more in-depth about nutrient deficiencies later, but this is definitely an important factor when dealing with Adrenal Fatigue and, really, almost every illness… Nutrient deficiencies.

Sleep disorders are another possible factor or root cause of Adrenal Fatigue. Sleep or rest is one of those free things that is accessible to all and can promote health and healing. There are various ways to improve your sleep, but getting proper sleep is definitely an important part of healing and improving your Adrenal Fatigue.

There are also other factors, such as chronic illnesses that can cause your adrenal glands to function poorly. There's medication, especially steroid medication, over exercising, surgical menopause – Now, this isn’t necessarily within your control anymore. If you've already had surgical menopause, you can't really backtrack, but there are still things that you can do to improve your situation despite that. There’s also chronic pain, digestive illnesses, cholesterol issues and Anemia and many of these things can be addressed by nutrition and other holistic natural methods.

In conclusion, Adrenal Fatigue is absolutely real no matter what you've heard. Logically speaking, of course it's real. I mean, there's not just healthy adrenal glands and Addison's disease. There are levels in between that can cause chronic fatigue, a poor immune system and other health issues that people want solutions for

There are so many positive things I could say about Mayim Vega, but today I'm going to focus on two that are very important to me. First is her willingness to always serve others, and second is her ability and openness to answering questions. She possesses extensive knowledge of health issues. My family and I never hesitate to contact her immediately whenever we have any questions about alternativesto conventional treatments that I already know of from my training in the management of diseases. I’d recommend her 100% any day!

Mayim has helped me tremendously over the last 3 years in my journey toward healing. There have been multiple times that I have inquired and received invaluable wisdom and knowledge from her. For example, I struggle with arthritis and have heart palpitations regularly. Mayim provided me with her formula for herbal calcium tea. After drinking it I felt a difference very quickly. Over time, my palpitations dissipated and my pain was relieved. I also had very healthy blood pressure after drinking the tea as she recommended for a few months. This greatly increased my quality of life. Additionally, I required more iron, as I as anemic and struggling, and she shared her super greens formula with me which also helped bring up my B vitamins. I saw a major improvement after drinking daily, and I began providing the drink to my children as well.

I was interested in naturopathic healing before acquiring Mayim's recommendations, but I have learned so much as a result. Herbal remedies, a whole foods diet, and many options for avoiding allopathic care have all added to my family's quality of life. More than that, though she has helped me navigate many trials and has been an integral part of my personal healing in that she has given me advice on how to process trauma, how to promote healing emotionally/physically, and how best to handle situations in my life. When I've needed honest advice, she has consistently listened and given fair advice in many areas of my life.

Lastly, Mayim is a successful entrepreneur from whom I have gotten many ideas from, while running a family business and has shared her knowledge and even challenges so that we as a family might be more successful. In all, she is an invaluable asset and cherished ally to our family and to me individually.
