"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth."
Genesis 1:1 KJV
The first chapter in Genesis introduces us to a God who in His infinite might has, in and of Himself, the ability to create all things through the power of His Word. His creative power is not limited to physical aspects. In the New Testament we also read that He can re-create hearts and minds as well:
Jesus said, "Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."
John 3:3 KJV
How can we do this? Scripture says to be "born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever."
1 Peter 1:23 KJV
This is a journey through the Bible towards a holistic life, a life of wholeness, God's natural way. This quest is not merely one of self-improvement. It's ultimate purposes are divine. Apostle Paul writes:
"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. "
Romans 12:1-2 KJV
Are you ready to discover the will of God?
Interconnection w/Nature
"And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them."
Genesis 1:26-27 KJV
We find in the first two chapters of Genesis our interconnection with nature. If you notice, the creation account is systematic for good reason. First there is only water, then light, then the atmosphere and the earthy ground, then the plants, then the animals, and finally mankind. Plants need the water, light, and earth that was made before-hand in order to survive. Animals need the water, light, earth, and plants to survive. And finally humans also, need everything created before them in order to survive.
Humans tend to believe that when God gave humans dominion over other forms of life and over the planet, that He gave us license to abuse it, extort it, and destroy it to any extent for whatsoever intents and purposes we desire. However God has a very different view of lordship...
"But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant."
Matthew 23:11 KJV
"Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?" (meat in the KJV Bible means simply food, whether from an animal or plant source)
Matthew 24:45 KJV
According to Biblical principle, the fact that we have dominion over something means that we are responsible for it, we are the caretakers.
What are some ways people extort and abuse nature? What are some ways you can live more in harmony with nature? How we care for and nurture the planet instead of extort it?
The Original Diet
"And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so."
Genesis 1:28-30 KJV
The original diet commanded by God for humankind, as well as the animal kingdom, was a raw food, total vegetarian diet. This is the same diet used by many today to aid them in healing through diseases such as cancer. Although it is unwise to follow extremes in diet, the Bible does prophesy a future time when Messiah comes back to earth and there will again, as in Genesis 1, be no more death or killing, and all creatures will eat a total vegetarian diet once again. The prophet Isaiah wrote:
"The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea."
Isaiah 11:6-9 KJV
Whether or not one decides to become a vegetarian or not, incorporating more fresh fruits & vegetables into your diet can do wonders for your health. In my family we always try to start each morning by drinking a "green smoothie" (made of fruits, juices, and vegetables, especially green leafy vegetables), followed by a large portion of fresh raw fruit. For dinner we start off with a large plate of salad before eating any cooked food. Once we started doing this simple thing my husband's digestion problems went away and I lost a few pounds and had more energy!
A Positive Attitude
Scripture says, that your spirit, your emotions, your thoughts, can keep you sick, as it is written:
"The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?"
Proverbs 18:14 KJV
Every milestone of creation was marked by the words, "God saw that it was good." He didn't wait until everything was complete, until He finally accomplished everything he wanted to get done, in order to be satisfied. He knew that man would sin, and that the perfect world God created would be ruined by this sin. He knew that He would one day have to send His Beloved Son to die on man's behalf. But God did not dwell on this sorrow. We too should be positive, joyful, and have a merry heart, despite our trials and sorrows, for this is God's medicine for depression, anxiety, and stress. Scripture says...
"A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken."
Proverbs 15:13 KJV
"A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones."
Proverbs 17:22 KJV
"Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad."
Proverbs 12:25 KJV
"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."
Philippians 4:8 KJV
